How to structure a referral partnership between agencies

A referral partnership is two agencies agreeing to introduce clients to each other when the fit is right. It works when both sides know what a good introduction looks like and what, if anything, is owed when one closes.

Define what counts as a referral

A name in an email is not a referral. Agree that a referral is an introduction with context — who the client is, what they need, why this partner fits — and that both parties know it is being made.

On B2B.ID this is what Request Introduction does by design: the context travels with the request and both B2B IDs are visible.

Decide whether terms are involved

Some agencies refer purely reciprocally. Others agree a finder’s fee or revenue share when a referral closes. Either is fine; what matters is that it’s agreed before the first introduction.

Any terms are between the two agencies. B2B.ID does not set, require or take a share of referral terms.

Agree how you’ll keep each other informed

Who follows up, how quickly, and how the referring agency learns whether it closed. A short update keeps a partner sending you their best clients.

Make it a verified partnership

Send a Request Partnership with the model set to referral partner. Once confirmed, it appears on both B2B IDs, and introductions between you carry that verified relationship.

Put this into practice on your own B2B ID.
